Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Bosworth, visited the Hinckley ASDA store in October to thank the staff for fundraising over £2,140 for Tickled Pink.
So far this year, thanks to donations from the community, the ASDA on Hinckley’s Barwell Lane have raised over £2,140 for Tickled Pink which supports Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel, two of the United Kingdom’s leading breast cancer charities.
Since its inception in 1996 Asda’s Tickled Pink has raised more than £82,000,000 in funds for world-class research, providing support for those affected by breast cancer and educating about the importance of giving a breast self-exam (BSE) once a month.
By 2026 Asda aim to have raised £100 million for breast cancer charity partners and to have over a million more people regularly checking themselves for signs and symptoms of breast cancer.
The Asda Foundation supports small grass roots organisations and works alongside Community Champions, such as Joanne Howe from Hinckley ASDA, who connect with a range of organisations and groups to support a variety of local community projects.
During the visit Dr Evans, a GP-turned-MP, and representatives from ASDA also discussed how the team would be working with local schools to fundraise for BBC Children in Need in November.
Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Bosworth, said “Thank you to the team at ASDA Hinckley for having me in store to discuss their phenomenal work raising over £2,100 so far this year for Tickled Pink and raising awareness of Breast Cancer.
“It was a great opportunity to see something my team and I have worked on come full circle, as Dale from Market Bosworth Football Club was also at the store following an introduction we had made between MBFC and the Asda Foundation! They had successfully secured £400 following their application for a grant. I’d encourage any other community groups to get in contact with me, as your MP I am always keen to help connect people in my network.
“There's still time to visit the store during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and see how you can support the team’s fundraising for Tickled Pink.”
Joanna Howe, Community Champion at Asda Hinckley, said “So far this year we have raised over £2,100 for Tickled Pink thanks to the support and generosity of people across Hinckley and Bosworth.
“We’re proud to support the community through Asda Foundation grants and donations to local groups – such as Market Bosworth Football Club which recently received £400 for new footballs for the U10’s team and £500 for Barwell and Earl Shilton Lions Club – and regularly organise community litter picking sessions which anyone can come along to and help out.
“And next month we’ll be working alongside three local schools and Pudsey the bear to raise money for Children in Need.”
