Gregory Parkes, Chairman for Leicestershire and Rutland Young Farmers Club in 2021/22, has been awarded as an NFU Farming Hero by Bosworth’s MP, Dr Luke Evans.
The award celebrates farmers across the nation who have gone above and beyond to support their community through tough times as well as providing services to their area beyond farming.
Parkes, who has been heavily involved with Market Bosworth Young Farmers since 2015, volunteered with the Bosworth in Bloom group and fundraised across the county, was a “clear choice”, said the local MP.
Gregory Parkes, recipient of the NFU 2022 Farming Hero award for Bosworth, said “I got involved in Young Farmers Clubs (YFC) to broaden my friendship group in the local area and build connections.
“I soon came to value the voice that YFC gives to young people in agriculture, and the incredible opportunities to develop skills and the community, while providing a social outlet to young people in rural areas which can at times be isolating.
“I felt I wanted to give back and drive the organisation forward for future generations. Receiving the NFU Community Farming Hero Award from Dr Luke Evans was unexpected and I felt greatly honoured. I hope other young people in the local area will be encouraged to get involved with the great opportunities available through Young Farmers Clubs; and the opportunities to put forward a positive voice for agriculture and rural communities.”
Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Bosworth, said “I was delighted to award Greg as Bosworth’s NFU Farming Hero for 2022 and discuss his work in and around our community.
“Greg has been an integral part of the Young Farmers Club in Leicestershire and Rutland for many years, helping to keep the club a welcoming and informative space for current and future members.
“As Chair of the YFC, Greg has ensured that his work centres around what is best for the county and for the Club’s long-term survival, delivering several talks a year to a whole host of external groups. I have no doubt he will remain a vital member of the local farming community for many years to come!”
