As many people across our area will know, the previous Secretary of State for Transport, Louise Haigh, announced in September a delay for the decision on the proposed Hinckley National Rail Freight Interchange until March 2025.
It’s as clear to me as it is to the public that the local impact of the proposed Hinckley NRFI far outweigh any proposed national benefits, especially when considering the many concerns around the information and the basis being used to justify the proposal.
Alberto Costa, MP for South Leicestershire where the HNRFI risks being built, and I have written to the new Transport Secretary to bring her up to speed. You can read the letter via the attached pdf.
I strongly urge everyone across our area who is registered as an Interested Party and wants to have their say on this proposal, to respond to the new information and submit further thoughts to the Planning Inspectorate by 7th February 2025.
The developer's responses to questions posed by the Department for Transport back in September are available on the Planning Inspectorate's website: Hinckley National Rail Freight Interchange - Project information
The previous Transport Secretary said she was ‘minded to refuse’ consent, as per the Planning Inspector’s recommendation. I hope the new Transport Secretary takes the same view and rejects this proposal for good.
