Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Bosworth, presented the award for members vote and visitors vote to Colin Ramsbottom, of Earl Shilton, for his painting ‘Up the Garden Path’.
This was the first time that a member of the Club had won both the award for ‘best in show’, as decided by visitors, and the members award for ‘best picture’.
More than 400 people from across the area visited Peckleton Village Hall on the weekend of 20th and 21st April to see the spring exhibition by members of Desford and Peckleton Art Club.
The Club has 35 current members, with painters gaining experience with everything from watercolours to oils and acrylics, taking part in workshops with visiting artists and organising groups painting sessions at local sites such as Kirkby Mallory Church. The Club is so popular that there is an extensive waiting list to join.
Peckleton Village Hall hosted the two-day exhibition that was advertised widely across local villages. The biannual exhibition is a chance to show off the group’s talent, raise money and provide a place for the community to come together, view the art and enjoy cake and coffee.
People across the community who want to become members are invited to join the Club’s waiting list and can find out more online at www.dandpartclub.co.uk.
Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Bosworth, said “The Desford and Peckleton Art Club’s Spring Exhibition was a fantastic opportunity to see so much local talent all in one place!
“I was blown away by the creativity in each painting and commend all members for their bravery in having their work displayed over the course of the weekend. It was a pleasure to present Colin with the award for both the members and public vote, a first for the Club and proof of his talent.
“There were so many people there providing a real buzz. It was a great way for the community to come together, learn from one another and share their passion. And there was plenty of artistic flare on display!
“A big congratulations and well done to everyone who took part and to Rebecca, Graham, Alex and the team for organising a really successful event where they were able to raise over £1,400 for the Club!”
