Last week, in the Spring Budget, the Chancellor announced that the Government would be increasing the annual pension allowance to £60,000 and scrapping the Lifetime Allowance.
While sitting on the Health Select Committee together, both the Chancellor and I heard how this significant red-tape was seriously disincentivising doctors and effectively punishing them for taking on extra work.
I'm delighted that the Chancellor has been able to make this change and was pleased to hear last week from the Chair of the BMA Pensions Committee that this is having an impact immediately with doctors either cancelling or wanting to come back from retirement.
Removing more red tape around other professions in the NHS will enable us to retain and recruit staff, cutting down on the NHS waiting lists.
