In January more than 1,000 people across Hinckley and Bosworth nominated their favourite local pub as part of a call by Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Bosworth, to recognise the vital role that pubs play within the community.
In total, 76 pubs and local establishments were nominated as ‘Hinckley and Bosworth’s Favourite Pub’ with many people taking the time to leave positive comments about why they’ve nominated their local pub.
Dr Luke Evans MP has visited The New Plough Inn in Hinckley, The Red Lion in Barlestone and Elbow Room in Hinckley to thank the teams for their hard work and congratulate them on taking the top three spots.
Hinckley’s New Plough Inn, The Red Lion in Barlestone and Elbow Cask and Craft in Hinckley received the first, second and third most nominations, respectively.
Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Bosworth, said “I’ve been absolutely blown away by the number of people who nominated their favourite pub in our area and took the time to write such kind comments about why their pub deserved to win.
“Pubs are not simply a place to eat and drink; a good pub helps combat loneliness as people start to feel like they are part of a community. These winter months are often the hardest for the hospitality sector, so I wanted to start 2024 on a more positive note and show some appreciation to the pubs across Hinckley and Bosworth who are so often the hearts of our area.
“I really enjoyed reading the comments people left about their favourite pub so wrote to each pub nominated to share some the kind words people left about them. It’s been great to hear from the teams at the pubs how much these letters have meant to them, and I’ve been touched to see a few letters in frames!
“It’s been a real pleasure to speak to Louise and Darren at the New Plough Inn, Andy and Fiona at the Red Lion in Barlestone and Tim at Elbow Room to hear what the recognition means to them. A very big well done to each pub nominated, your hard work is greatly appreciated – keep it up!”
Dr Luke has urged the local community to go out and support their local pub and try out some of the nominations in Hinckley and Bosworth. He said “As the weather improves, it’s the perfect time to explore the amazing offerings in our area. I hope people can look at the list and try somewhere new, I certainly plan to!”
Here's a list of everyone that was nominated... if there's a pub you haven't heard of before or one you'd like to revisit, do pop along to support if you can!
