This year’s annual exhibition for the Hinckley and District Society of Art was held at Burbage Congregational Church over the weekend of the 24th and 25th of August and celebrated the Society’s 50th anniversary following its inception in 1974.
Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Hinckley and Bosworth, was invited to present the Neate Trophy – named after the founders of the Art Society, Norma and Joseph Neate – for the ‘Best in Show’ painting.
People from across Hinckley and Bosworth attended the exhibition over the course of the weekend and voted for their favourite paintings, with the award for ‘Best in Show’ going to Shirley Simonetti for her pastel painting ‘Stirling Mouse’.
The Society are encouraging people across Hinckley and Bosworth to join, of which there are currently around 60 existing members.
People who are considering joining the Society are invited to join demonstration evenings, after which they can decide whether to become members. More information can be found via http://www.hadsart.co.uk/
Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Hinckley and Bosworth, said “A very big well done and congratulations to Shirley Simonetti for winning the ‘Best in Show’ award! People from across our area who attended the exhibition had a tough job of choosing just one painting from over 100 fantastic pictures on display… the event was a true credit to the talent within the Society.
“Over the course of the weekend I was so pleased to hear that many of the paintings on display were sold, raising over £750 for the Society. This was a fantastic way to ring in the Society’s 50th Anniversary this year.
“I also wanted to extend my gratitude to Carol, Sara, Ricki and the other members of the Committee for their work organising and carrying out the exhibition over the weekend, which was enjoyed by so many in our community.”
