Location: Hinckley
Salary: In line with IPSA pay scales
Length of Contract: Permanent
Job Details
Dr Luke Evans MP is recruiting a Constituency Assistant for his busy constituency office in Hinckley.
This is an entry level post, but previous experience of a workplace is of course welcome. You should be proactive, dedicated, and have a keen eye for detail. You should be clear and concise in your communications and have a great manner with members of the public.
Customer service is key, with the ability to work through and solve constituents’ problems and help Luke to engage with his constituents.
You will play a critical role in the overall running of Luke's office. The work is fast paced and can be challenging; the role offers a real opportunity to make a concrete difference to the lives of local people. The successful candidate will need to build strong, positive relationships with key local stakeholders and help with wider office projects.
Training will be provided, but we are looking for a positive, can-do attitude and someone who takes pride in projects and helping others.
We are flexible on whether this will be either a full-time position or part-time and will wait for the right candidate. We are looking for someone who works hard, complements our fun and supportive team, and wants to deliver an efficient, effective, and empathetic service to constituents in Bosworth.
Applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a small team. A good telephone manner and strong written skills are essential. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, responsible, able to use initiative and capable of working under pressure to meet deadlines. As stated, previous experience is less important than the right attitude as training will be provided.
Key responsibilities:
- Dealing with large numbers of standard queries.
- Assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by telephone, email and at surgeries.
- Logging cases, monitoring progress and ensuring effective action is taken.
- Ensuring records are kept and information managed carefully, sensitively and confidentially.
- Analysing patterns of enquiries in case a wider campaign is required.
- Assisting with Luke’s communications strategy.
- Engaging with the public.
- Assisting with political research.
- Getting stuck in with wider office projects.
There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally, including down to Parliament. The role is primarily office based in Hinckley but there is capacity for a degree of remote working and the successful new team member may need to attend Luke’s Westminster office on occasion.
Support for the Conservative Party and its aims is essential.
Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. Any offer of employment will be subject to successful security clearance.
Pay to be in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
