Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Bosworth, has welcomed figures showing his constituency is a net zero hotspot.
A net zero hotspot is described as ‘connected areas with concentrated net zero activity, where businesses create jobs and add to the local hotspot’s economy’. This means better paid jobs and opportunities locally, local businesses the opportunity to grow in our area, and a better environment for us all. Over 840,000 jobs in the UK are supported by businesses in the net zero economy, with an average wage of £42,600 compared to the national average of £33,400.
Among the four Leicestershire and Warwickshire constituencies forming the hotspot, Bosworth, South Leicestershire, North Warwickshire and North West Leicestershire, more than 9,000 people are employed in ‘net zero jobs’ with businesses which have contributed over £1 billion to the region’s Gross Value Added (GVA).
Among the four hotspot constituencies in Leicestershire and Warwickshire, Bosworth and South Leicestershire stand out as areas of ‘particularly high activity’.
The East Midlands sees the second highest level of benefits, in terms of Gross Value Added (GVA) and jobs, from the net zero economy, according to newly released figures from the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit and the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) Economics.
Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Bosworth, said: “I’m delighted to see our area is a net zero economy hotspot and that Bosworth has been highlighted as having ‘particularly high activity’ in the region. It is so great to see our area leading the way once again on advanced manufacturing, research and development and highly paid jobs.
“There really is a revolution in technology going on and I’m proud to see our area is helping to lead the way on this. I, and the Government, want to see current progress continue. The next Industrial era – harnessing green technology - is growing right here, with people and businesses across Hinckley and Bosworth already seeing the benefits!
"I’ve been invited to visit businesses all around our constituency who are playing a huge role in developing the jobs and technologies all of the future, while helping to protect the environment. It’s terrific to see their hard work is not only recognised but paving the way for our nation’s net zero commitments.”
