Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Bosworth, has welcomed news that £1,093,036 of Government funding has gone towards grassroots sports facilities across Hinckley and Bosworth since 2021.
Between 2021 and 2025, the Government will have invested over £400 million into a wide range of grassroots sports facilities to provide people with much needed spaces to get active. The Government’s direct investment is delivered through three major programmes: the £327 million Multi-Sport Grassroots Facilities Programme, the £21.9 million Park Tennis Court Renovation Programme and the £60.8 million Swimming Pool Support Fund.
Local projects which have received funding include over £530,000 for an artificial grass pitch upgrade at Bosworth Academy, £532,000 for a new floodlit 3G artificial grass pitch at Barwell Cricket & Sports Club and more than £12,500 for goalposts at clubs across the area including Witherley, Market Bosworth, Hinckley, Markfield and Ratby.
The tennis courts at Hollycroft Park received more than £14,000 for court refurbishment, the installation of a new gate and funds to support an online booking system.
The Programmes include partner funding from the English Football Association, Premier League and LTA Tennis Foundation.
An announcement on which swimming pools will receive funding from the £60.8 million Swimming Pool Support Fund is expected in the Spring.
Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Bosworth, said “Sport is something I am passionate about, and I know many people in our area our too. It’s therefore excellent news that money is being pumped into our sporting community, especially for grassroots sports facilities across our community!
“I know, from speaking to the teams that work hard to run these clubs all year round, just how welcome each bit of funding is and how they rely on grants like these to ensure our sports facilities are there for all to enjoy.
“It’s great that the Government is committed to investing in community facilities like these and promoting the importance of being active.”
“This is not the only way to access grants, as I often get them across my desk. So if you are a club or community organisation looking for further funding, do get in contact (my email is [email protected]) – I’m here to help!”
Lucy Frazer, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, added “Millions of people across the country play, watch and enjoy sport every day - it is central to our national identity.
“We all know that being active and playing sport has the power to change lives for the better. Quite simply, an active life is a happier, healthier and more prosperous life, which is why the Government has set out our ambitious Get Active strategy to get over 3.5 million more people active by 2030, including 1 million young people.”
