Over the past four and a half years I have fought hard to improve our area and we have achieved so much together! I'm proud of the progress we have made but there is still so much more to do and I’m eager to continue the good work we’ve started.
A handful of examples are £24m for Hinckley & District Hospital, £19.9m for a National Science & Conservation Centre at Twycross Zoo, improvements to the A5 and funding for local schools. From support for pensioners to securing our children’s future, from building businesses to protecting our rural heritage, I’m keen to deliver the best opportunities for people to thrive in our area.
We have so much potential across our community and if I’m re-elected I’m determined to ensure this is maximised to the fullest!
Here you can find out a bit more about my work for Hinckley & Bosworth
I am fighting for improved local infrastructure
We need the right houses, in the right places with the right infrastructure (GPs, schools, roads etc) with protections for our environment and heritage. But our local Lib Dem-run council have failed to protect our precious green spaces from inappropriate housebuilding.
I'm fighting for stronger planning laws and against the proposed Hinckley Rail Freight hub (HNRFI).
Did you know: Earlier this year I helped to secure £238m for improving roads across Leicestershire - including £3m for potholes & £1.7m for bus routes.
I am supporting a strong local economy
Our local economy drives everything. From the £1.8m refurbishment of Castle Street in Hinckley to supporting 7,743 businesses with over £38m during the pandemic, I’m proud to have helped secure their future. A strong economy allowed me to successfully argue to support 24,694 pensioners in our area with an above-inflation uplift to the Triple Lock. And with unemployment in Hinckley and Bosworth lower than the national average, we are making great progress!
Did you know: 20,700 jobs in Hinckley & Bosworth were protected by The Furlough Scheme during the pandemic.
I am protecting our rural communities
I successfully pushed for a Rural Policing Team which has seen rural and wildlife crime fall by 24% in the last year and the recovery of over £1.3m of stolen goods and equipment. One crime is one too many, and I will continue to push for further support for our police.
Did you know: Since 2019 there have been 332 new police officers in Leicestershire and the policing budget in our county is £255m for 2024/25.
I am working for our community
Our community is outstanding, and I recognise that! I have been delighted to help secure grants like £150k for a new 3G pitch at Hinckley Rugby Football Club, £156k for the Oddies Pub in Higham-on-the-Hill and £120k for Hinckley Leisure Centre. I am eager to promote future projects that make a real difference to our lives and make our area a great place to live and work.
Did you know: Over 70% of our community has gigabit broadband coverage, up from just 0.2% in 2019
I am improving our local schools and education
I’m proud of the huge investments that have been made in Hinckley School and Hastings High School. I’m fighting to improve SEND provision in Leicestershire and, having secured a new 90 place SEND school in our region, I know there is more to be done. With 11,000 apprenticeships created locally since 2010, I want to see greater opportunities for our children.
Did you know: In 2010 only 66% of school in our area were rated ‘Good’ or above by OFSTED… now it is 88%!
All major supermarkets join my British campaign!
From speaking to local farmers, I know the best thing we can do to support them is buy homegrown produce, which helps cut down on unnecessary food miles. I'm pleased to lead the campaign of over 120 MPs calling on supermarkets to have an online 'Buy British' button and even more pleased that Tesco, Sainsbury's, Aldi, Morrisons, Asda and more have made the change I asked for!
Did you know: Over 34,000 members of the public signed the petition to support my campaign!
