Dr Luke Evans, MP for Bosworth, has welcomed multi-million-pound infrastructure upgrades for Hinckley’s broadband services. Hinckley is one of several areas in Leicestershire to benefit from new, ultrafast, full fibre broadband, which is up to ten times faster than the average home broadband speed. A £28 million investment from network provider Openreach will bring faster speeds to 70,000 Leicestershire homes and businesses between now and 2026, including rural areas.
The Government has pledged to deliver ‘gigabit broadband’ to 85 percent of the UK by 2025, offering significant benefits for local economies. Openreach’s regional director for the East Midlands, Kasam Hussain, commented that the organisation is due to deliver “some of the fastest and most reliable broadband available anywhere in the world.”
Welcoming the news, Dr Luke said: “It’s fantastic to see Hinckley on the list of areas due to benefit from this investment, bringing much-improved broadband speeds to thousands of families and businesses. The past year has shown the importance of staying connected online with families and friends, and these improvements will help us all to keep in touch with our loved ones, as well as streaming, surfing and selling online.”
Infrastructure improvements remain one of Dr Luke’s top priorities for Hinckley and Bosworth, offering to provide organisations with any support they need to improve vital local services. Openreach’s investment is just one of several recent boosts for the area, including the expansion of MIRA Technology Park in Nuneaton, and the area benefitting from over £100,000 from the Government’s ‘Welcome Back’ fund.
