Since the announcement last week of the worsening case of Omicron across the UK, I have spent many hours deliberating the best way forward.
I have spoken at length with Ministers and the Health Secretary, attended multiple briefs with Health Leaders including Prof Whitty and others from Public Health England. I also listened hard to what the people I represent were telling me and writing to me. Finally, I have also used my previous professional experience as a doctor, as well as all the information I have gathered in my role on the Health Select Committee to help inform my decision making when it came to voting.
Last night there were 4 regulations considered:
- Face masks – I voted with the Government
- Mandatory vaccination for NHS staff – I voted with the Government
- Changing self-isolation to daily testing – there was not a division on this so it was passed without a vote – I would have supported this change if voting
- Lateral flow testing for events with COVID pass exemptions – I broke the 3 line whip and did not support the Government
I explain all my reasonings in my short speech above (we were on a 4 minute time limit, so it is short!), or you can read my speech here.
I will continue to weigh up all possible evidence and opinions when it comes to making decisions on behalf of Bosworth, and as always if you have any questions, ideas or concerns please do get in contact.
