Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Bosworth, has praised a local postmaster whose branch is going the extra mile for vulnerable residents during the Coronavirus lockdown.
Mr Deepak Joshi, who runs the Three Pots Post Office in Burbage, has seen counter services take off since the Government restricted the opening of retail businesses, and he has started local deliveries of essential supplies to over 100 elderly and vulnerable residents who live with 1.5 miles of the shop.
Mr Joshi said “Our Post Office counter has never been busier as families buy first class stamps to send pictures to grandparents, whilst others are sending parcels to relatives who may be isolated many miles away.
“The Post Office is an important part of the community and we have a duty to serve vulnerable people with essential groceries who otherwise wouldn’t be able to get supplies. We know that often our customers don’t have their purses, but right now that’s not important – what is important is that they are looking after themselves and staying safe, they can always pay us later on.”
Dr Luke said “One of the things that has become increasingly apparent during this crisis is the role that small, independent business play in the community and the long-term investment independent retailers make providing supplies to customers who often become friends.
“It’s astonishing that Deepak is going that extra mile to deliver essentials to local people who so desperately need them. That is what community is all about.”
Mr Joshi is continuing to operate regular post office opening hours and is committed to serving the residents of Burbage and Hinckley through the current Coronavirus outbreak.
